HUNTINGTON, WEST VIRGINIA — Marshall dominated Southern Miss. from start to finish Wednesday night, cruising to a 5-0 victory that showcased the Thundering Herd's offensive firepower and defensive organization. Angel Fowler's three-goal performance led the home side's relentless attack, while the Golden Eagles managed just five shots on goal in a lopsided Conference USA matchup.

Luana Gusmao opened the scoring in the 26th minute when she capitalized on a Bailey Fisher setup to give Marshall an early advantage. Fisher herself doubled the lead just nine minutes later with a clinical finish in the 35th minute. The Herd's dominance continued when Fowler struck in the 41st minute, assisted by Fernanda Dantas, to give Marshall a commanding 3-0 halftime lead that essentially decided the contest.

Marshall's first-half performance was suffocating. The home side controlled possession and created numerous chances, with Fisher testing Southern Miss. goalkeeper repeatedly. Southern Miss. struggled to generate any meaningful offensive rhythm, with their defense constantly under siege. The Golden Eagles' backline, already fragile entering the match, couldn't contain Marshall's movement and creativity in the final third.

The second half saw Marshall continue its onslaught without mercy. Fowler added her second goal in the 60th minute, again with Dantas providing the assist, extending the lead to 4-0. The two-time combination proved too much for Southern Miss. to handle. Marshall's substitutions in the 60th minute—bringing fresh legs into the match—didn't slow the Herd's attack one bit. Fowler completed her hat trick in the 84th minute to seal the rout and cap a dominant performance.

Statistically, the disparity was stark. Marshall out-shot Southern Miss. 22-6 overall and 12-5 on goal. The Herd also dominated the corner-kick battle 9-2, creating numerous set-piece opportunities. Southern Miss. goalkeeper made seven saves to keep the deficit from ballooning even further, while Marshall's keeper recorded five saves in a relatively comfortable evening.

Fisher was the catalyst for much of Marshall's success, creating chances and finishing when opportunities presented themselves. Fowler's three-goal performance demonstrated her clinical finishing and positioning in the box. Dantas' two assists highlighted her ability to pick out teammates in dangerous areas. For Southern Miss., the effort was simply insufficient against a Marshall side that executed at a high level throughout.

The victory improves Marshall to 8-4-4 overall and continues the Herd's recent upswing after a draw with Coastal Carolina last Friday. Southern Miss., meanwhile, remains mired in a difficult stretch at 2-14-1, extending their losing streak to eight matches. The Golden Eagles have now conceded 20 goals over their last three games, a troubling trend as the season winds down.

Marshall returns to action Saturday against a conference opponent, looking to build on this dominant performance. Southern Miss. will attempt to stop the bleeding when they host their next opponent, desperately seeking their first win in nearly two weeks.
