Azusa Pacific Edges Point Loma 2-1 in NCAA Division II Showdown

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Azusa Pacific improved to 10-2-3 with a 2-1 victory over Point Loma on Wednesday, extending its winning streak to two matches. The Cougars controlled the first half and held their advantage despite a second-half push from the home squad.

Zoey Kuhn gave Azusa Pacific an early lead in the 55th minute with a low-left shot. The midfielder added a second goal in the 61st minute, putting the visitors ahead 2-0 and seemingly in command of the contest.

Point Loma responded through Nikki Ross, who scored in the 70th minute to cut the deficit in half. The Sea Lions pressed for an equalizer throughout the final twenty minutes but could not find the breakthrough, falling to 6-3-4 on the season.

Azusa Pacific's attack proved decisive, outshooting Point Loma 8-11 overall while converting on 4 of those attempts. The Cougars also dominated possession in key moments, earning four corner kicks compared to Point Loma's two.

Madison Woodward received a yellow card for unsporting conduct in the 68th minute for Azusa Pacific, while Point Loma's Zoe Crockett was cautioned for similar conduct late in the match. The physical nature of the contest resulted in three total yellow cards.
