GOLDEN, Colo. — CSU Pueblo survived a second-half comeback to defeat Colo. Sch. of Mines 3-2 on Thursday, extending its winning streak to two games. The ThunderWolves (8-2-7) controlled much of the first half before the Orediggers mounted a furious rally that nearly forced extra time.
Matty Parkes opened the scoring for CSU Pueblo in the 31st minute, assisted by Jose Peris Gimeno. The away side dominated possession early, outshooting the home team 9-5 on goal attempts through 45 minutes. Despite Colo. Sch. of Mines' (3-8-4) defensive adjustments at halftime, CSU Pueblo maintained its advantage entering the break.
Brandon Sanchez doubled the ThunderWolves' lead in the 53rd minute off a pass from Yahel Paramo Caudillo, appearing to put the match out of reach. CSU Pueblo's attack generated consistent pressure, forcing Colo. Sch. of Mines goalkeeper to make six saves throughout the contest.
The Orediggers refused to surrender. Noah Roles pulled one back in the 56th minute, assisted by Lucas Taitt, cutting the deficit to one. Charlie Newberry equalized in the 78th minute with help from Jaden Igarta and Taitt, setting up a tense final stretch.
