CALIFORNIA, PA — California (PA) defeated Seton Hill 3-1 on Wednesday, extending its winning streak to two games. The Vulcans broke through in the second half with three unanswered goals to overcome a scoreless first 45 minutes before a regional audience.
Veronica Warunek opened scoring in the 24th minute, assisted by Macrina Robb, giving California (PA) an early advantage. The teams remained deadlocked at 1-0 through halftime despite continued pressure from both sides.
California (PA) added two more goals in quick succession after intermission. Izabella DeGlopper extended the lead to 2-0 in the 54th minute. Warunek struck again in the 89th minute to seal the victory with a right-footed finish.
Seton Hill's Kilee Coatney converted a penalty kick in the 67th minute to temporarily cut the deficit to 2-1, but the Griffins could not generate sustained offensive pressure thereafter. Jillian Botti and Binta Sow each received yellow cards for unsporting conduct.
California (PA) dominated the second half, recording five shots on goal compared to Seton Hill's two. The Vulcans' goalkeeper made one save, while Seton Hill's Jordan Spozarski recorded two saves in a losing effort.
The victory improves California (PA) to 2-11-2 overall following consecutive wins. Seton Hill falls to 2-11-2 after dropping its second consecutive match.
