BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA — Cal St. San Marcos snapped a two-game losing streak Friday with a 1-0 victory over Cal Poly Pomona, securing a crucial win in regional tournament positioning. Jesua Espinoza Castillo's goal in the 64th minute proved decisive as the Cougars held firm defensively throughout the second half.

The match remained scoreless through 45 minutes despite both teams generating chances. Cal Poly Pomona created early pressure with shots from Marvin Gamez and Mads Frederiksen in the first half, while Cal St. San Marcos countered with efforts from Cisco Avila and Brando Oros. Neither goalkeeper faced significant danger before intermission.

Cal St. San Marcos controlled possession after halftime and broke through when Espinoza Castillo finished in the 64th minute, assisted by Efren Nunez Dominguez. The goal came after sustained pressure from the home side, which generated six corner kicks compared to Cal Poly Pomona's two.

Cal Poly Pomona pressed for an equalizer but couldn't find the back of the net. The Broncos managed five shots on goal but couldn't overcome Cal St. San Marcos' organized defense. Joseph Spencer received a yellow card for unsporting conduct in the 48th minute as frustration mounted for the visitors.

Both teams made multiple substitutions to manage fatigue and shift momentum. Cal Poly Pomona cycled through five players in the 68th minute alone, while Cal St. San Marcos made strategic changes to protect its lead down
