BOLIVAR, Mo. — Southwest Baptist snapped a two-game losing streak with a 1-0 victory over Missouri S&T on Sunday. The Bearcats broke through midway through the second half before 577 spectators at the home venue.
Luis Sanchez-Barbudo Cruz scored the decisive goal in the 48th minute, assisted by Edgar Piña Alvarez. The early second-half strike proved sufficient for Southwest Baptist to secure the win despite Missouri S&T's defensive efforts.
Southwest Baptist dominated possession with eight shots on goal compared to Missouri S&T's three. The Bearcats also held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks while limiting the Miners' opportunities throughout the match. Missouri S&T goalkeeper made seven saves in the losing effort.
The result marks Southwest Baptist's first win in three matches, improving the Bearcats to 7-9-2 overall. Missouri S&T, which entered the contest with a 9-5-3 record, suffered its second consecutive defeat and dropped to 9-6-3.
Southwest Baptist hosts Rockhurst on Friday in their next conference matchup.
