GOLDEN, Colo. — UCCS dominated Colo. Sch. of Mines 3-1 on Sunday, extending its winning streak to two games. The Mountain Lions struck three times in the opening 22 minutes before surrendering a late consolation goal. The victory improved UCCS to 9-4-4 overall while Mines fell to 3-9-4, extending its losing streak to three consecutive defeats.
Miles Seminario opened the scoring in the 16th minute, assisted by Eduardo Macias. Nick Walker doubled the lead just over a minute later with Sean Belzer providing the assist. Dimitrios Leonoglou sealed the dominant first half with a goal in the 22nd minute, assisted by Diego Macias, giving UCCS a commanding 3-0 advantage.
Charlie Newberry answered for Colo. Sch. of Mines in the 75th minute, assisted by Lucas Taitt, but the goal proved merely cosmetic. UCCS controlled the match throughout, recording eight shots on goal compared to Mines' three while attempting 14 total shots to the home team's 11.
The visitors' goalkeeper made two saves to preserve the victory, while Mines' keeper recorded five stops in a losing effort. UCCS held a 4-5 disadvantage in corner kicks but converted its scoring opportunities with clinical efficiency during the opening half-hour.
