QUINCY, Ill. — McKendree and Quincy battled to a 1-1 draw on Sunday, with the visiting Leathernecks salvaging a point through a late goal. The match remained scoreless until Mathias Bringedal gave Quincy the lead early, but Fredrik Christian Rugland Thulin equalized in the 89th minute to secure the tie for McKendree before an unspecified crowd.
Bringedal opened the scoring in the 1st minute for the home Hawks. Thulin answered for McKendree in the 89th minute, assisted by Paul Moodie and Adam Reiniger, forcing the dramatic finish.
McKendree dominated possession and opportunity, outshooting Quincy 14-5 overall and 6-2 on target. The Leathernecks also earned seven corner kicks compared to Quincy's three. Quincy's goalkeeper made five saves to keep the Hawks competitive despite the offensive disparity. McKendree recorded just one save in the defensive effort.
The draw marks McKendree's third consecutive match without a loss, improving to 8-4-5 overall. Quincy, now 8-6-3, has alternated results recently after defeating Missouri-St. Louis before falling to Maryville.
