CLEMSON, SOUTH CAROLINA — Western Michigan pulled off a stunning upset Thursday, defeating Clemson 1-0 in NCAA Division I Championship action before 861 spectators at Historic Riggs Field.

Mathieu Beuvain scored the match's only goal in the 21st minute, assisted by Roni Sylejmani and Jonathan Stout, giving the Broncos an early lead they would protect throughout the remainder of the contest.

Clemson dominated possession and territorial play, outshooting Western Michigan 18-3 and earning five corner kicks to the Broncos' one. The Tigers generated numerous chances through Ransford Gyan, Abdou Mane, Wahabu Musah, and Nathan Richmond in the first half, then intensified pressure in the final 20 minutes with attempts from Mason Jimenez, Remi Okunlola, and Arthur Duquenne.
