WASHINGTON, D.C. — Third-seeded Florida State defeated Lipscomb 1-0 on Thursday in NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship action before 413 spectators, advancing on Heather Gilchrist's 23rd-minute goal.

Gilchrist finished a service from Taylor Suarez to give the Seminoles the early lead they would not relinquish. Florida State dominated possession throughout, outshooting the Bisons 20-4 and recording six shots on goal to Lipscomb's one.

Despite their territorial advantage, the Seminoles could not extend their lead. Lipscomb's goalkeeper made five saves in the first half alone, keeping the deficit manageable. Florida State earned seven corner kicks compared to Lipscomb's one but failed to convert set-piece opportunities.

Lipscomb (15-6-2) showed more attacking intent in the second half, with Hailey Johnson testing Florida State's defense. A VAR review in the 53rd minute resulted in no action on a potential penalty. The Bisons pressed forward late but could not generate clear scoring chances against the Seminoles' organized backline.

Florida State advances in the NCAA Championship bracket versus Georgetown.
