TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's soccer team secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Rollins College in a Sunshine State Conference matchup on Wednesday evening at Pepin Stadium. The win improves Tampa's record to 3-3-1 while Rollins drops to 4-3-1 on the season.

The Spartans established their dominance early, with Ally Wold testing the Rollins defense in the 4th minute with a low shot toward the center. Tampa's offensive pressure continued as Lilly Nava and Brooke Kittner both registered attempts in the 8th minute, followed by another Wold effort in the 9th minute that sailed high.

The first half showcased Tampa's attacking prowess, as they outshot Rollins 8-3 in the opening period. Jalen Haas created multiple opportunities, including a dangerous attempt in the 12th minute. Rollins' Gabby Boyd and Skylar Kruszka managed to break through for shots in the 13th minute, but Tampa's defense held firm. Tara McDonald and Zoe Whiddon added to Tampa's shot tally before the break.

The second half saw Rollins attempt to mount a comeback, with Emma Griner becoming increasingly influential in the attack. The visitors created several opportunities, including shots from Jessie Wade in the 69th and 71st minutes. However, Tampa's defensive organization, particularly through their midfield led by Mimi Cronquist, maintained control of the match. The Spartans continued to threaten on the counter, with Sydni Dennis forcing a save in the 64th minute.

Final statistics reflected Tampa's overall control of the match, as they outshot Rollins 18-12, with 10 shots on target compared to Rollins' 6. The Spartans also held a slight edge in corner kicks (5-4). Both teams demonstrated disciplined play, with no yellow cards issued throughout the match.

Ally Wold proved to be a constant threat for Tampa, recording multiple shots and creating numerous chances in the attacking third. For Rollins, Emma Griner showed resilience in the second half, while Skylar Kruszka contributed both defensively and in attack. The goalkeepers were busy throughout, with Tampa's keeper making 8 saves and Rollins' recording 6 stops.

Tampa's tactical approach emphasized quick transitions and wing play, particularly through Lilly Nava and Brooke Kittner. Rollins attempted to counter with a more possession-based style, but struggled to break through Tampa's organized defensive structure. The home side's pressing strategy effectively disrupted Rollins' build-up play throughout the match.

The victory marks a significant turnaround for Tampa following recent setbacks against Embry-Riddle and Palm Beach Atlantic. For Rollins, the loss extends a challenging stretch that has seen them win just once in their last four matches, including a scoreless draw against Barry.

Tampa's defensive organization proved to be the difference-maker, as they recorded their first clean sheet in four matches. The Spartans' ability to control the midfield through Mimi Cronquist and create consistent attacking opportunities through their wing play demonstrated their tactical superiority throughout the evening.

Looking ahead, Tampa will aim to build on this momentum when they travel to face Lynn University on October 4th. Rollins will have a week to regroup before hosting Florida Southern on October 8th in another crucial conference matchup.
